Private Jet Charter Finland
Private jet charter in Finland connects a technology-led business economy in the south with one of Europe's most distinctive winter destinations in the north. Helsinki is the capital and commercial centre, linked closely with Stockholm, Tallinn and the rest of the Baltic, while Finnish Lapland — Rovaniemi, Levi, Saariselkä and beyond — attracts visitors from around the world for snow, the northern lights and the Christmas season. MEGA arranges private jet charter to, from and within Finland on aircraft operated by licensed partner operators, choosing airports and aircraft according to the trip and the conditions.
This page explains the Finnish airports most often considered for private flights, how winter shapes planning, and what we need to prepare a quotation.
Private jet charter Finland: why it makes sense
Finland is large and sparsely populated beyond the south. Rovaniemi is more than 800 kilometres north of Helsinki, and Ivalo further still. Scheduled flights to Lapland are concentrated in winter and can be full during peak weeks, and connections from other European cities often route through Helsinki. A charter allows families and groups to fly directly from London, other European cities or the Gulf to the airport closest to their lodge, and executives to link Helsinki with other capitals on their own timetable.
Business demand comes from technology, telecommunications, forestry and paper, engineering, shipbuilding and gaming companies, many with headquarters in the Helsinki area, Espoo, Tampere, Turku and Oulu. Leisure demand peaks in Lapland from late November to March, with a second, smaller summer season under the midnight sun and in the lake district.
Finnish airports considered for private flights
The best airport depends on your final destination, the aircraft, runway, opening hours and handling availability.
Helsinki Airport, Vantaa (EFHK / HEL)
Helsinki-Vantaa, north of the capital, is Finland's main international airport and the base for most business aviation in the country. It accepts all classes of business jet and has established handling. For city-specific detail see our Helsinki private jet charter page.
Rovaniemi Airport (EFRO / RVN)
Rovaniemi, on the Arctic Circle, is the capital of Lapland and the best-known Christmas destination in Finland. It receives large numbers of charter flights in December, so parking and handling for private aircraft are worth securing early.
Kittilä Airport (EFKT / KTT)
Kittilä serves the Levi ski resort and western Lapland. It is busy in the winter season and handles a range of business jets.
Ivalo Airport (EFIV / IVL)
Ivalo, Finland's northernmost airport, serves Saariselkä, Inari and the far north. It is a common choice for northern-lights lodges and wilderness experiences.
Other airports
Turku (EFTU / TKU) and Tampere-Pirkkala (EFTP / TMP) serve southern and western business centres, Oulu (EFOU / OUL) the north-west, Kuusamo (EFKS / KAO) the Ruka resort, and Mariehamn (EFMA / MHQ) the Åland Islands. Smaller airports are checked for each aircraft.
More detail is in our Finland flight guide, including Helsinki-Vantaa, Kittilä and Ivalo.
Winter in Lapland: what changes
Lapland airports are experienced at operating in snow and extreme cold, and flights continue throughout winter. What changes is timing and capacity. De-icing takes longer, daylight is short or absent in midwinter, and the December weeks before Christmas bring a concentration of charter flights to Rovaniemi, Kittilä and Ivalo. Aircraft parking can be limited, and some aircraft may need to reposition to another airport between legs. We confirm parking, handling, de-icing and alternates with the operator and handler before the trip is contracted.
Temperatures can fall well below minus 20 °C. Operators take this into account for aircraft systems and ground handling, and passengers should plan suitable clothing for the walk between the aircraft and the terminal.
Typical charter uses in Finland
Christmas and family trips to Lapland
Families travelling to meet Santa Claus in Rovaniemi or stay at lodges in Levi or Saariselkä often prefer to fly directly, especially with young children. Booking early is strongly recommended for December dates.
Northern-lights and wilderness travel
Ivalo, Kittilä and Rovaniemi are bases for aurora viewing, husky and reindeer safaris and glass-igloo stays. Couples and small groups often combine several nights in two destinations.
Business in Helsinki and the Baltic
Helsinki is a short flight from Stockholm, Tallinn, Riga and Copenhagen, and around three hours from London. A charter allows a day of meetings across two or three capitals. Our Stockholm and Copenhagen pages describe nearby destinations, and multi-city private jet charter explains combined itineraries.
Summer and the lake district
The Finnish Lakeland and the archipelago between Turku and Åland draw summer visitors to lakeside villas and islands. Smaller aircraft may suit regional airports such as Savonlinna or Kuopio.
Choosing the right aircraft
Aircraft choice depends on passengers, luggage — winter clothing and equipment add volume — distance and runway conditions. Light and midsize jets suit Nordic and Baltic sectors, while flights from the Gulf or North America to Lapland need longer-range aircraft. Winter performance and parking also affect which aircraft can be offered. See our fleet overview for categories; the operator confirms availability for your dates.
Schengen and customs
Finland is in the EU and the Schengen Area. Flights from other Schengen countries normally avoid passport control, while flights from the UK and outside Europe are processed through the handling agent. The Åland Islands have special tax status within the EU, which can affect customs arrangements.
Ground transfers and onward travel
From Helsinki-Vantaa, central Helsinki is reached by road or train in around half an hour outside peak traffic, and Espoo's business districts are a similar distance. Tallinn is a short flight away for those combining the two capitals.
In Lapland, airports are generally close to the resorts they serve, which is one of the reasons private flights work well there. Rovaniemi Airport is a few kilometres from Santa Claus Village and the city. Kittilä is a short drive from Levi. Ivalo is around half an hour from Saariselkä and also serves Inari and lodges further north. Lodges often meet guests at the aircraft with their own vehicles, and some offer snowmobile or reindeer-sleigh transfers as part of the experience.
Because winter clothing is essential and luggage volumes are higher than usual, we ask for an accurate luggage count when quoting. Families travelling with children's equipment, photographers carrying camera gear and groups with skis should mention this in the enquiry. Many visitors combine Finnish Lapland with northern Norway or Swedish Lapland, and multi-country Arctic itineraries can be flown on one aircraft, subject to operator approval.
Summer visitors to the Lakeland often fly into Savonlinna, Kuopio or Joensuu for suitable aircraft, then continue by road or boat to lakeside villas. The Turku archipelago and Åland are reached by boat or by small aircraft into Mariehamn, and many summer itineraries combine Helsinki with a few days on the islands.
How a Finland charter enquiry works
Send us your departure city, preferred Finnish airport or final destination, dates, times, passengers and luggage. For Lapland trips, tell us your lodge or resort so we can suggest the closest suitable airport. We check aircraft with partner operators, confirm handling, parking and de-icing, and provide a written quotation. Once approved, the operator confirms the aircraft and crew and we coordinate the details. Flexible travellers can ask about empty-leg flights, which are never guaranteed.

Frequently asked questions
Which airport is closest to Santa Claus Village?
Rovaniemi Airport is a few kilometres from Santa Claus Village on the Arctic Circle and is the usual arrival point for Christmas trips to Rovaniemi.
How early should I book a private jet to Lapland for December?
As early as possible. December is the busiest period at Rovaniemi, Kittilä and Ivalo, and aircraft parking and handling can be limited. Later requests are still checked.
Can a private jet fly directly from London to Lapland?
Yes, with a suitable aircraft. Direct flights from London to Rovaniemi, Kittilä or Ivalo avoid connecting through Helsinki, subject to airport capacity and winter conditions.
Which airport should I use for Levi or Saariselkä?
Kittilä is the usual airport for Levi, and Ivalo for Saariselkä and Inari. We confirm the best option based on your lodge and the aircraft.
Does extreme cold stop private flights in Finland?
Rarely. Finnish airports are equipped for winter operations. Cold, snow and darkness mainly add de-icing and ground time, which we build into the schedule.
What information is needed for a Finland charter quote?
Your route, dates, times, number of passengers, luggage and any special requirements. For Lapland, your accommodation helps us suggest the most practical airport.
