Private jet charter Switzerland: the heart of European business aviation

Switzerland is the heart of European business aviation, and its winter peaks are among the most slot-constrained weeks anywhere in the region. MEGA Aviation arranges private jet charter to, from and within Switzerland on aircraft operated by licensed partner AOC holders, comparing airports, aircraft and transfers so the whole journey, not just the flight, is as short and dependable as possible.

Demand comes from banking and wealth management in Geneva and Zurich, international organisations, the World Economic Forum in Davos, and some of the world's best-known ski resorts: Verbier, Zermatt, Gstaad, St Moritz and Crans-Montana.

Geneva, Zurich and Basel

Geneva (LSGG / GVA) is the primary gateway: strong business aviation infrastructure, immediate access to the lake, and the departure point for Verbier, Crans-Montana and the Chamonix valley. See our Geneva private jet charter page.

Zurich (LSZH / ZRH) serves the financial centre and the eastern Alps, including Davos, Klosters, Lenzerheide and road access to the Engadin. See Zurich private jet charter.

Basel (LFSB / BSL) covers the north-west and the tri-border area, including Art Basel and pharmaceutical-industry travel. All three are slot-coordinated, which in practice means arrival and departure times are negotiated rather than simply requested during peak weeks.

Mountain airports: Sion and Samedan

For the mountains, Sion (LSGS) is the closest useful field to the Valais resorts, and it can shorten the drive to Verbier, Crans-Montana and Zermatt when the aircraft and conditions suit it.

Samedan (LSZS), at 1,707 metres, serves St Moritz and the Engadin. Samedan is a genuinely demanding airport: altitude, terrain, daylight limits and aircraft-specific approvals all restrict which types can operate there, and a Zurich or Milan arrival plus a road or helicopter transfer is often the more realistic plan. Helicopter transfers are daylight-only and depend on weather and permissions on the day.

Airports we work with in Switzerland

  • LSGG / GVA — Geneva: primary business aviation gateway; Verbier, Crans-Montana and Chamonix access.
  • LSZH / ZRH — Zurich: financial centre and eastern Alps; slot-coordinated.
  • LSZS — Samedan (St Moritz): high-altitude Engadin airport with type, daylight and approval restrictions.
  • LSGS — Sion: closest practical field to the Valais ski resorts.
  • LFSB / BSL — Basel–Mulhouse: north-west Switzerland and the tri-border region.

Regional airports such as Lugano or Bern may also be considered for specific trips, subject to runway, aircraft and handling suitability confirmed by the operator.

Ski resorts: choosing the best arrival airport

We compare total door-to-door time rather than only the flight, because a slightly longer flight into a better-suited airport often wins once transfers, parking and weather buffers are included. For the wider region, see our Alpine ski season flights guide.

Davos and the World Economic Forum

Two weeks dominate the Swiss calendar: the World Economic Forum in Davos in January, and the Christmas–New Year period. In both, parking is the binding constraint. Aircraft frequently drop passengers and reposition to airports such as Zurich, Basel, Munich, Milan or Innsbruck, and slots are allocated well in advance of the event. See our Davos and World Economic Forum page.

Popular routes into Switzerland

Frequent requests include London to Geneva or Sion for the ski season; Paris, Milan or Munich to Zurich for business; Dubai, Riyadh or Doha to Geneva for summer at the lake; and transatlantic arrivals from New York into Geneva or Zurich. Short European sectors suit light and midsize jets, while Gulf and transatlantic arrivals call for heavy or long-range aircraft. The operator confirms timings and routing for each trip in the proposal.

Choosing an aircraft

  • Light and midsize jets suit short European sectors from London, Paris, Milan or Munich, and are often the only types suitable for demanding mountain airports.
  • Super-midsize and heavy jets suit families with ski equipment, longer European sectors and groups who want more cabin space.
  • Long-range jets suit arrivals from the Gulf, North America or Asia into Geneva or Zurich.

Ski bags, boot bags and winter clothing take space; share accurate luggage details so the proposed aircraft can carry everything in one trip.

Permits, slots and ground realities

  • Geneva, Zurich and Basel are slot-coordinated; peak-week arrival and departure windows are secured in advance, not on the day.
  • Parking at Geneva during Davos and the Christmas period is limited, so drop-and-go with repositioning is the normal pattern.
  • Samedan operations depend on the specific aircraft's approvals, performance and daylight; nothing is assumed until the operator confirms it.
  • Winter weather brings de-icing, low visibility and occasional closures; realistic buffers matter more than optimistic schedules.

Switzerland is part of the Schengen area. Travellers arriving from outside it should check passport and visa requirements with official sources before travel.

When to travel

December to March is the ski peak, with the WEF week in January and the Christmas–New Year period the tightest. June to September brings lake and hiking traffic plus summer conferences. Shoulder months offer the widest aircraft choice and the easiest slots. Regular travellers may also consider a jet card, and flexible one-way trips can use empty leg flights.

What shapes the cost of a Switzerland charter

MEGA does not publish fixed prices, because every Swiss trip is quoted individually. The main factors are aircraft category, flight time including positioning, airport and handling charges, peak-week slot and parking conditions, repositioning when parking is unavailable, de-icing in winter, overnight crew costs and any helicopter or ground transfers. During Davos week and over Christmas, repositioning to another airport and returning for the departure can add flight time, and the proposal shows this clearly.

On the ground in Switzerland

Geneva, Zurich and Basel all offer business aviation handling, with passengers processed separately and taken to the aircraft by the handler. Chauffeur transfers to Verbier, Gstaad, Crans-Montana or Davos, rail connections to Zermatt and helicopter transfers where permitted can all be built into the plan, with winter road conditions factored into the timing.

Special requirements

Pets, medical equipment, children's seats, dietary requests and bulky sports equipment all affect aircraft and operator choice. Share these at enquiry stage so the proposal reflects the real payload and cabin needs.

How booking works

Send your route, dates, preferred times, passenger numbers, luggage and final destination. MEGA reviews the request with suitable licensed operators and returns proposals that name the aircraft, the operator, the routing, the transfer plan and the conditions. Once you approve and sign, the operator secures slots, parking and handling.

Frequently asked questions

Can a private jet land at St Moritz?

Samedan serves St Moritz, but it is altitude, terrain and daylight restricted and needs aircraft-specific approvals. We confirm with the operator first, and often recommend Zurich or Milan with a ground or helicopter transfer.

How early should Davos week be arranged?

Weeks, not days. Slots and parking around Zurich and Geneva are allocated well ahead, and late requests usually mean an alternative airport rather than a better time.

Which airport is best for Verbier?

Geneva for most trips, with Sion as a shorter drive when the aircraft and conditions suit it. We compare the total door-to-door time rather than only the flight.

Which airport is best for Zermatt?

Geneva, Sion or Zurich depending on aircraft and schedule, followed by road or rail to Täsch, because Zermatt itself is car-free.

Can I take skis and ski bags on a private jet?

Yes, within the aircraft's baggage capacity. Share the number of ski bags and other luggage early so a suitable cabin is proposed.

Are helicopter transfers to the resorts possible?

Sometimes. Helicopter transfers are daylight-only and depend on weather, landing-site permissions and a licensed operator's confirmation on the day.

MEGA arranges flights on aircraft operated by third-party AOC holders. Airport, curfew and slot details on this page describe how those airports operate and are confirmed for each trip before it is contracted.
