Private Jet Charter to the Alps for Ski Season
WINTER SEASON
Alpine ski flying is decided by airports and daylight, not by aircraft availability — and by parking in the two weeks either side of New Year.
Geneva is the single most used gateway, covering Verbier, Courchevel, Méribel, Val d'Isère, Chamonix and Crans-Montana. Chambéry and Grenoble sit closer to the Tarentaise valley and are the workhorses for the French resorts, while Sion serves the Valais, Innsbruck and Salzburg cover Austria, Turin and Milan cover the Italian side, and Samedan serves St Moritz and the Engadin.
The mountain airports are genuinely restrictive. Samedan sits at 1,707 metres with terrain, daylight and aircraft-approval limits; the Courchevel altiport has a very short sloped runway usable only by specifically approved aircraft and crews. Chambéry's approach is terrain-constrained and closes more readily in poor visibility than Grenoble's. None of these are a default choice — we confirm the specific aircraft and crew approvals with the operator, and when the answer is no we say so and plan the road or helicopter leg instead.
Because parking is the binding constraint during Christmas, New Year and the February school holidays, most aircraft drop passengers and reposition. That, plus the two or three hours of driving that some resorts need from the nearest jet-capable airport, is what actually decides the schedule. We quote the door-to-door plan rather than only the flight.

Slots, parking and ground realities
When to travel
The season runs from mid-December to early April. Christmas week, New Year and the February school holidays are the tightest for slots, parking and crews; mid-January and March offer far better availability and pricing. Requests for peak weeks are best placed as soon as the dates are fixed, because the constraint is airport capacity rather than aircraft supply.

Frequently asked
Which airport is closest to Courchevel?
The Courchevel altiport itself, but only approved aircraft and crews can use it, in daylight and suitable conditions. Chambéry and Grenoble are the practical alternatives, with Geneva for larger aircraft.
Why can't the jet wait at the ski airport?
Parking in peak weeks is allocated and limited. Most aircraft drop passengers and reposition to a larger airport, which is normal and priced into the trip.
When is the best value time to fly to the Alps?
Mid-January and March. Slots are available, crews are less stretched, and the same aircraft costs meaningfully less than in Christmas or February half-term weeks.
Can you carry skis and snowboards?
Yes, but hold volume varies sharply between aircraft types. We confirm the baggage list before recommending a cabin so nothing is left behind at the FBO.
MEGA arranges flights on aircraft operated by third-party AOC holders. Airport, slot, parking and altiport details on this page describe how those airports operate and are confirmed with the operator for each trip before it is contracted.
