Private Jet Charter Romania

Private jet charter in Romania serves one of the largest countries in Central and Eastern Europe, with a growing business economy and distinctive destinations from Transylvania's medieval towns to the Black Sea coast. Bucharest is the capital and the main business centre, Cluj-Napoca is a technology and university hub, Timișoara and Iași are major regional cities, and the Carpathians and the Danube Delta draw visitors seeking nature and heritage. MEGA arranges private jet charter to, from and within Romania on aircraft operated by licensed partner operators, choosing airports and aircraft to fit your itinerary.

Below we explain which Romanian airports are typically considered for private flights, how distances and seasons affect planning, and what we need to prepare a quotation.

Private jet charter Romania: why it makes sense

Romania is large, and the Carpathian mountains separate many of its regions. Driving from Bucharest to Cluj-Napoca or Timișoara can take most of a day, and while domestic flights connect major cities, timetables are limited. A charter allows executives to visit sites in several cities on one trip and return home the same evening, and leisure travellers to reach Transylvania or the coast without long road journeys.

Business demand comes from IT and software development in Cluj-Napoca, Bucharest, Iași and Timișoara, automotive and industrial manufacturing in the west and centre, energy, agriculture and infrastructure investment. Leisure demand includes Transylvania's fortified towns — Sibiu, Brașov and Sighișoara — the painted monasteries of Bucovina, ski resorts in the Carpathians, the Black Sea resorts near Constanța and the Danube Delta. Romania became a full member of the Schengen Area in January 2025, simplifying travel from most of the EU.

Romanian airports considered for private flights

The right airport depends on your destination, aircraft, runway length, opening hours and handling availability.

Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport, Otopeni (LROP / OTP)

Otopeni, north of Bucharest, is Romania's main international airport. It accepts all classes of business jet, has established handling and is the usual arrival point for flights from the Gulf, North America and Asia. Our Bucharest flight guide has more detail.

Bucharest Aurel Vlaicu International Airport, Băneasa (LRBS / BBU)

Băneasa, closer to the city centre, is used for business and general aviation. Its city location saves time on the ground, but runway, hours and other restrictions mean suitability must be confirmed for each aircraft and flight.

Cluj-Napoca Avram Iancu International Airport (LRCL / CLJ)

Cluj-Napoca is the main airport in Transylvania and serves the city's technology and university sector, as well as wider north-west Romania. It accepts a broad range of business jets.

Timișoara (LRTR / TSR) and Iași (LRIA / IAS)

Timișoara Traian Vuia serves western Romania, close to the borders with Hungary and Serbia, and its industrial and automotive base. Iași serves the north-east and the region of Moldavia.

Sibiu (LRSB / SBZ) and Brașov-Ghimbav (LRBV / GHV)

Sibiu serves southern Transylvania, including the city's historic centre and nearby fortified churches. Brașov-Ghimbav, which opened to commercial traffic in 2023, is close to Brașov, the Prahova Valley ski resorts and Bran Castle. Handling for private flights is arranged for each trip.

Constanța (LRCK / CND)

Constanța Mihail Kogălniceanu serves the Black Sea coast, including Mamaia, and is a starting point for the Danube Delta.

Other airports such as Târgu Mureș, Oradea, Craiova, Suceava and Bacău serve their regions and are checked on request. More information is in our Romania flight guide, including Sibiu, Constanța and Brașov-Ghimbav.

Distances, mountains and seasons

The Carpathians form an arc through the centre of the country, and mountain roads are slow, particularly in winter. A flight from Bucharest to Cluj-Napoca takes about an hour, compared with many hours by road. Winters bring snow and ice, especially in Transylvania and the mountains, which can add de-icing time; summers are hot, with the Black Sea coast busiest in July and August. Romania borders Ukraine and Moldova to the east, and some airspace near those borders has restrictions that change with circumstances. Flight plans follow current official information.

Typical charter uses in Romania

Technology and corporate travel

International technology companies with development centres in Cluj-Napoca, Iași and Timișoara often send leadership teams on multi-city visits. A charter can link two or three cities in a day.

Industry and investment

Automotive, manufacturing and energy projects bring investors and engineers to sites across the country. Charters allow teams to travel with materials and return the same day.

Central and Eastern European business

Bucharest connects quickly with Budapest, Vienna, Warsaw, Istanbul and Athens. See our Warsaw and Prague pages and corporate roadshow charter for structured itineraries.

Transylvania, Carpathians and the Black Sea

Visitors combine Brașov, Sibiu and Sighișoara with Bran Castle, mountain lodges and spa resorts. In winter, Poiana Brașov and the Prahova Valley attract skiers; in summer, the Black Sea coast and the Danube Delta draw families and nature lovers.

Choosing the right aircraft

Domestic and regional sectors are short, so light and midsize jets often fit best. Larger aircraft suit groups and long-haul flights from the Gulf, North America or Asia, generally into Bucharest Otopeni or Cluj-Napoca. Smaller regional airports and winter conditions can limit the options. See our fleet overview; availability is confirmed by the operator for your dates.

Schengen and customs

Romania is in the EU and, since January 2025, fully in the Schengen Area. Flights from other Schengen countries normally avoid passport control, while flights from the UK and outside the Schengen Area are processed through the handling agent. Visa requirements depend on nationality.

Ground transfers and onward travel

From Otopeni, central Bucharest is reached by road in around half an hour to an hour depending on traffic, which can be heavy at peak times. Băneasa is closer to the north of the city and its business districts, which is one reason it is attractive when the aircraft and schedule allow it.

Cluj-Napoca's airport is close to the city centre and the technology parks. Sibiu's airport is a short drive from the historic centre, with the Făgăraș mountains and the Transfăgărășan road beyond. Brașov-Ghimbav is near Brașov, and from there Bran Castle, Râșnov and Poiana Brașov are short drives; Sighișoara is further north. Suceava serves Bucovina and its painted monasteries, and Tulcea is the gateway to the Danube Delta.

Chauffeured vehicles can be arranged to meet the aircraft through the handling agent, and for heritage itineraries we can coordinate with your guides and hotels. Mountain roads are slower in winter, and some high routes such as the Transfăgărășan close seasonally, so transfer times are planned realistically. Romania combines well with Moldova, Hungary and Bulgaria for regional business or leisure journeys, subject to operator approval and each country's entry rules.

How a Romania charter enquiry works

Share your departure city, Romanian airports or final destinations, dates, times, passengers and luggage. We check aircraft with partner operators, confirm airport hours, handling and slots, and send a written quotation. After approval, the operator confirms the aircraft and crew and we coordinate the ground arrangements. Flexible travellers can ask about empty-leg flights, which are not guaranteed.
