Helicopter charter AlUla to Tabuk
About 160 nautical miles direct, roughly approx. 1h 25m – 1h 45m in the air as a planning indication. By road the same journey is typically typically 3h to 4h by road. Flights are performed by licensed third-party helicopter operators on request, never as a scheduled service.
The sector in practice
A north-west sector linking the heritage destination with the regional centre, used during the AlUla season for staff, production and visitor movements when the fixed-wing schedule does not fit.
Two constraints shape it: AlUla is a protected heritage and conservation area, so approach and landing points near archaeological sites are controlled, and rotary capacity in the north-west is limited enough that positioning may be required before the flight can happen at all.
Landing sites at each end
- AlUla Prince Abdul Majeed (OEAO / ULH) — Heritage and resort gateway
- Tabuk Airport (OETB / TUU) — Regional gateway for the north-west
- AlUla resort and camp helipads (Resort pads) — Private pads subject to owner permission
Operating window
Routings are approved by the General Authority of Civil Aviation, with heritage-area restrictions applied by the Royal Commission around protected sites.
Resort, camp and event pads require owner permission and commonly restrict movements to daylight hours.
Most VIP rotary work is planned in daylight; night flying depends on the operator's approval, the aircraft and lit landing sites at both ends.
Canyon winds, high daytime temperatures and limited local rotary capacity all affect the window.
Seasonal pattern
The AlUla season runs roughly October to April, when demand and the event calendar peak and rotary capacity is hardest to secure. Summer is very hot with much lower demand, and early departures are the practical option.
Typical reasons for this flight
- Season and event movements between the two cities
- Production, filming and crew transfers, subject to permits
- Resort and camp transfers where a pad is available
- Onward legs from a private jet arrival at either airport
Frequently asked questions
Are there restrictions around the heritage sites?
Yes. Flying and landing near protected areas such as Hegra is controlled by the Royal Commission and the aviation authority, and approval is confirmed case by case.
How much notice is needed?
As much as possible in season. Rotary capacity in the north-west is limited and aircraft often have to be positioned.
