Helicopter Charter in AlUla
AlUla's canyons and dispersed resorts are made for rotary flying — within the limits that a protected heritage landscape imposes.
Prince Abdul Majeed bin Abdulaziz Airport (OEAO/ULH) is the arrival point, and the properties, camps and cultural sites are spread across a wide desert and canyon landscape where road transfers are long and the interesting places are not next to each other. Rotary legs shorten that considerably, and the same aircraft supports event and festival movements during the season.
The landscape is also the constraint. AlUla is a protected heritage and conservation area, so overflight and landing near archaeological sites such as Hegra are controlled by the Royal Commission and the aviation authority, not by the operator or by us. Camp and resort pads require the owner's permission and have their own limits.
Terrain, heat and daylight complete the picture: canyon winds and high daytime temperatures reduce performance, and most VIP rotary work here is planned in daylight with an early-morning preference in the warmer months. We confirm the approvals and landing consents before quoting, and we say when a road transfer is the honest answer.

Approvals, landing sites and operating realities
- Rotary flights are performed by GACA-licensed third-party operators; aircraft and crew are confirmed per request.
- AlUla is a protected heritage and conservation area; overflight and landing near archaeological sites are controlled and often restricted.
- Resort, camp and event pads require owner permission and compliance with pad size and weight limits.
- Canyon winds, high daytime temperatures and daylight constrain the window; morning flying is preferred in the warmer months.
Seasonal and weather patterns
The AlUla season runs roughly October to April, when weather is comfortable and the cultural and event calendar is at its busiest — this is also when rotary capacity is hardest to secure. Summer is very hot, favouring early flights, and demand drops sharply.

Frequently asked questions
Can a helicopter land at an AlUla resort?
Only where the property has a usable pad, the owner grants permission and the pad suits the aircraft. Several properties rely on road transfers instead.
Are scenic flights over Hegra possible?
Any flying over protected heritage areas is controlled by the Royal Commission and the aviation authority. Where it is permitted, route and altitude restrictions apply, and approval is confirmed case by case.
When should we book for the AlUla season?
As early as possible between October and April. Rotary capacity in the north-west is limited and the season concentrates demand into a few months.
MEGA arranges private helicopter charter and on-request point-to-point hops through licensed third-party rotary operators. Nothing here is a scheduled service, and every flight depends on an operator accepting it with a suitable aircraft, crew and approved routing.
