Private Jet Charter in Portugal
Portugal is a year-round market: Lisbon and Porto for business and culture, the Algarve for golf and summer, and the Atlantic islands for a distinct seasonal flow.
Private aviation in Portugal
Lisbon (LPPT/LIS) is the main gateway, with business aviation handling and good access to the city and Sintra. Cascais (LPCS) is a genuinely useful alternative west of Lisbon for smaller types, close to the coastal residential belt, subject to runway length and hours. Porto (LPPR/OPO) serves the north, the Douro valley and a strong corporate base.
Faro (LPFR/FAO) is the Algarve gateway and behaves differently from Mediterranean resort airports: its peak is broader, running from spring golf season through summer and into autumn, with Quinta do Lago, Vilamoura and Vale do Lobo the usual destinations. Beja and Portimão exist but are rarely the right answer for a charter arrival.
The Atlantic islands need their own planning. Madeira (LPMA/FNC) is famous for wind and its runway environment, and operations there depend on aircraft approvals, crew qualification and conditions on the day; Porto Santo is the standard alternate. The Azores, principally Ponta Delgada (LPPD/PDL), support seasonal and technical stop traffic.

Permits, slots, customs and handling
- Lisbon slots tighten around major conferences and football fixtures; Faro peaks across a longer season than most Mediterranean fields.
- Madeira operations depend on the specific aircraft's approvals and on wind conditions; diversions to Porto Santo are a normal planned outcome, not a failure.
- Cascais suits light and some midsize aircraft only — performance and published hours are checked before it is offered.
- Schengen entry formalities are completed with the handling agent; passenger documentation is verified per traveller.
Seasonal demand
The Algarve golf season runs from February to May and again in September and October, with summer family traffic in between. Lisbon and Porto are steady year-round with spring and autumn business peaks. Madeira and the Azores are busiest from late spring to early autumn.

Frequently asked questions
Can we use Cascais instead of Lisbon?
For light and some midsize aircraft, yes, and it saves time if you are staying on the coast. Larger types and long-haul arrivals use Lisbon.
Is Madeira difficult to fly into?
It is wind-sensitive and requires specific aircraft and crew approvals. We plan it with Porto Santo as the alternate and tell you honestly when conditions may force a change.
When is the Algarve busiest for private flights?
Spring and autumn golf weeks and the summer school holidays. The season is longer and flatter than in the Balearics, so availability is usually more comfortable.
