Cabin and performance
- Category — Super-midsize jet
- Typical charter seating — 8 to 9
- Published maximum range — 3,460 nm published (X+)
- Cabin height — 5 ft 8 in
The Citation X / X+ in service
Out of production since 2018, the Citation X+ is still one of the fastest civil aircraft ever certified, with a maximum operating Mach number of 0.935. On long regional sectors it can save meaningful time against slower super-midsize types.
The trade-off is a cabin without standing height and higher fuel burn at high cruise settings. Worth requesting when arrival time is the constraint rather than comfort.
Missions the type is used for
- Time-critical sectors where cruise speed is the priority
- Long domestic and regional legs
Route examples that suit its legs
- Dubai to London
- Riyadh to Frankfurt
- Doha to Mumbai
Where these figures come from
All figures above are the manufacturer's published maximum values and vary by serial number, interior configuration and operating conditions. Source: https://cessna.txtav.com/en/citation. MEGA does not manufacture or represent any airframer; aircraft are arranged through registered third-party operators and availability is confirmed per aircraft and per date.
How the super-midsize jet class flies
Super-midsize types were created for the trip that a midsize cabin can only just reach — transcontinental sectors, or Gulf-to-Europe legs — with a stand-up cabin, a proper galley and a separated lavatory. Cruise speeds are close to heavy-jet figures, so block times on long legs are competitive.
They remain small enough to use the same airports as a midsize aircraft in most cases, which keeps flexibility on arrival. The limit is bed-quality rest: the class carries divans and lie-flat arrangements on some types, but it is not a two-cabin aircraft.
Other Super-midsize and midsize types
- Citation Longitude — In production: 3,500 nm published; quietest cabin in its class
- Citation Latitude — In production: 2,700 nm published; standing height in a midsize cabin
- Citation Ascend — In production: 1,900 nm published; certified 2025, replaces the XLS+
- Citation XLS+ — Out of production — still flying: 2,100 nm published; among the most-chartered midsize jets worldwide
- Citation Sovereign / Sovereign+ — Out of production — still flying: Longer-range midsize with good field performance
Chartering the Citation X / X+
Availability is the deciding factor on any specific type. The Citation X / X+ is arranged through registered third-party operators, so whether one can be placed on your trip depends on where an aircraft of that type is positioned, the crew's duty time, and whether the operator's approvals cover the airports and airspace involved. Where the type is not free, the desk offers the closest equivalent in the same class rather than holding a trip open.
Positioning, airport slots, handling, overnight crew costs and any de-icing or curfew constraints are priced into the quote rather than added afterwards, and every figure is confirmed against the actual aircraft and date before it is issued. We publish no rate for any type here, because an honest number depends on the aircraft, the routing and the day.
Frequently asked questions
How many passengers does the Citation X / X+ carry?
Typical charter seating is 8 to 9. The exact figure depends on the individual aircraft's interior, since operators configure cabins differently, and on baggage — a full cabin with heavy luggage can change what the aircraft can lift out of a given runway.
How far can the Citation X / X+ fly?
The published maximum range is 3,460 nm published (X+), quoted by the manufacturer under ideal conditions with a defined payload. Real sector capability is shorter once passengers, baggage, winds, temperature and reserve fuel are applied, so the operations desk checks each leg against the specific aircraft rather than the brochure figure.
Is the Citation X / X+ still in production?
Production status: Out of production — still flying. Status matters for parts support, cabin technology and resale, and it is stated here so no one quotes or budgets against a type that has not entered service or is no longer built.
Does MEGA operate the Citation X / X+?
No. MEGA arranges flights on aircraft operated by licensed third-party operators holding their own air operator certificates. Safety ratings such as ARGUS, IS-BAO or Wyvern are held by the relevant operator and applicability varies by aircraft and operator.
